DFA Secretary Alan Peter cayatano nag Overstays sa US?

The Secretary Alan Peter Cayetano of the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) is taking his own sweet time in the United States of America as he extends his visit there to a month.
Cayetano arrived in the US few days before the formal opening of the 72nd session of the UN General Assembly last September 19, 2017, which is described as the biggest annual gathering of world leaders.
The DFA secretary represented the country in the said event since President Rodrigo Duterte chose not to attend the same. This is the second time that the president skipped the yearly gathering.
Almost one month after he arrived in the US, Cayetano has never returned here in the Philippines. He has been reported to be shuttling between New York City and Washington DC.
The DFA office here in Manila through its spokesperson Robespierre Bolivar said that Cayetano has “some events and work to attend to in New York.”
However, except for the annual meeting of the board of governors of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank (WB) that will take place from October 13 to 15 in Washington DC, the DFA nor Bolivar did not specify the other “events and work” that Cayetano will supposedly attend for the rest of his stay in the US.
Since Cayetano, whose mother is an American citizen, is using public funds on his trip, he is obliged to disclose all his activities for his one-month escapade in the US as the Filipino people have the right to know where their taxes are being used.
President Rodrigo Duterte and other public officials both appointed and elected were heavily criticized for their junket trip in Russia last May amid the armed attack in Marawi City.
Duterte’s visit in Russia got the ire of critics because he was joined by officials which had nothing to do with the trip like the chief of the Philippine National Police, Director General Rolando “Bato” Dela Rosa as well as private citizens who are known to be loyal supporters of the president.
Last June, it was reported that Duterte, per the documents obtained through the freedom of information system, spent about triple of what his predecessors spent on foreign travels during their first year as president. In fact, Duterte spent more in his first year in office than the first two years of former presidents Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo and Benigno Aquino.
Pursuant to public policies of transparency and accountability, public officials going abroad purportedly for an official function should account for every peso that he spends for the trip.
It is high time for junketing and moonlighting officials like Cayetano to stop treating government funds and resources as their own private property.
