If you happen to see your children sitting in W-position, immediately stop them because of several negative effects on your kid's health. Sitting in W-position is sitting on his or her bottom with both knees bent and the legs turned away from their body. If you look the child above their head, his or her legs are in letter W shape. But why is it considered dangerous? Here's why!

Many kids prefer this sitting position because it is more comfortable and allows them to play with toys in an upright sitting position with minimal chances of falling over. But what parents or guardians didn't know is that sitting in this position for a long period of time increases the number of problems in child's hip and leg muscles, becoming short and tight.

1. It can have detrimental effects on the development of their gross motor skills, balance, and coordination.

But how can we prevent our children from W-sitting?


Prevention is cheaper than cure. So to avoid developing this sitting habit and negative effects on the child's health, experts advised that parents should encourage their children to shift to a different position by telling them.

Advise sitting positions are “criss-cross”, “long sit”, and “side sit” to help them develop trunk control.  You may also hold the child’s knees and feet together when kneeling or crawling to prevent them from W-sitting.

If your child is unable to sit alone in positions other than the W-position, experts also recommend consulting a professional therapist to help you with that.
